The 16 day Best of Indochina tour is inspired by the many sights, sounds and flavours of Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia. The tour takes you on a journey of smiles and authentic experiences, not only  visiting the fantastic sights and attractions, but also getting to know the countries more in-depth and their amazing people; call it a real slice of Indochina life. Some of the highlights include the Mekong Delta in Southern Vietnam; the famous Angkor Temples complex in Siem Reap, Cambodia; the colourful ancient town of Luang Prabang in Laos, the bustling city of Hanoi and the incredibble landscapes of UNESCO World Heritage site, Halong Bay.

2017 – 18

Day 1 Fly to Phnom Penh
You will take a scheduled flight from London Heathrow to Phnom Penh. Alternatively, we can arrange departures from your local airport.

Day 2 Arrive Phnom Penh
Upon arrival in Phnom Penh, you will be met by our local tour guide and transferred to the hotel. Rest of the day is at your leisure.

Day 3 Day tour in Phnom Penh and to Siem Reap (BL)
Start at the Royal Palace and the Silver Pagoda where 5,000 silver tiles cover the floor. Continue to the National Museum built in traditional khmer style. In the afternoon tour Tuol Sleng Prison and the Killing Fields – a reminder of the Khmer Rouge regime and gives an insight into how the country has developed. Transfer to the airport and take an evening flight to Siem Reap. Upon arrival, be met and transferred to the hotel.

Day 4 Angkor Wat (BL)
In the morning visit to the ancient city of Angkor Thom, the last capital of the Great Khmer Empire. Enter the impressive South Gate flanked by stone elephants and giants. In the afternoon visit the famous Temple of Angkor Wat, the largest and best preserved temple at the site. Enjoy the beautiful sunset.

Day 5 Tonle Sap Lake (BL)
Enjoy a boat trip on Tonle Sap Lake, South East Asia’s largest freshwater lake, and see the villages on stilts. See the monuments representing the Rolous Group. Visit the workshops of Artisan’s d’Angkor where traditional wood and stone carving techniques are taught.

Day 6 To Luang Prabang (BL)
Today head to the exquisite Banteay Srey Temple, one of the finest displays of classical Khmer art. Stop at Pre Rup, a stunning temple-mountain with excellent views of the countryside. Also visit Ta Prohm Temple, famed for the combination of trees growing out of the ruins. Transfer to airport. Fly to Luang Prabang.

Day 7 Luang Prabang city tour and Pak Ou Caves (BL)
A morning visit to the city’s oldest temple, Wat Sene and the impressive Wat Xiengthong, cruise up the Mekong to the Pak Ou Caves, passing by spectacular views. Explore the caves crammed with thousands of golden Buddha statues. Visit Ban Xangkhong village, famed for its silk hand weaving and traditional Saa paper making. Also see the magnificent stupa of Wat Visoun. Climb to the top of Mount Phousi for panoramic views of the city, the surrounding countryside and the Mekong Delta at sunset.

Day 8 Khuang Si Falls (BL)
Today visit local villages of Lao ethnic minority groups at Ban Ouay, Hmong Village and Ban Thapene, Khmu Village, then drive to the beautiful Khouangsi Waterfall where you can cool off with a refreshing swim in the turqoise pools or walk along the forest trails. We return to the city by late afternoon to observe the sunset at Wat Prabath.

Day 9 To Hanoi (BL)
An early start to see the morning ritual of monks collecting offerings of Alms (sticky rice) from residents. After breakfast, free day. Lunch at local restaurant. Afternoon pick up by your tour guide and driver at the hotel, transfer to the airport for the flight to Hanoi. Upon arrival, be met by your local tour guide and transferred to your hotel.

Day 10 Hanoi city tour (BL)
Experience the rich culture of Hanoi. Spend time at the Temple of Literature, One Pillar Pagoda and the Presidential Palace. Visit the Vietnam History Museum and the Hanoi Opera House. Take a stroll around the Old Quarter and end the day by watching a performance of a traditional Water Puppet Show.

Day 11 To Halong Bay (BLD)
Today journey through the rich farmlands and see the workers in the rice fields. Arrive in Halong City and board the traditional wooden junk boat for the overnight journey to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Halong Bay cruising past beautiful rock formations. Visit the small floating fishing village of Vung Vieng. Optional onboard activities include cookery class, massage, kayaking or swimming.

Day 12 To Ho Chi Minh City (BL)
We start the day with Tai Chi on the sundeck, then have breakfast on board. Explore the Sung Sot Caves. Enjoy lunch as the boat winds through the limestone rocks. Disembark at midday and take the shuttle bus back to Hanoi. Upon arrival, enjoy free time at your leisure. Late afternoon transfer to airport. Fly to Ho Chi Minh City, met by your local tour guide and transfer to hotel.

Day 13 Ho Chi Minh City tour and Cu Chi (BL)
Today, experience the very best of Ho Chi Minh City on a half-day city tour. Soak up the history of Dong Khoi Street on a walking tour, visit the Reunification Palace and War Remnants Museum, and the city’s biggest wholesale market in Chinatown. This afternoon, discover the Cu Chi Tunnels on the city’s outskirts.

Day 14 To Mekong Delta (BL)
In the morning transfer through the beautiful countryside of My Tho and Ben Tre province and take a boat ride, visit the islands, join the folk music performance and visit a local family producing coconut delicacies. Depart from My Tho, we drive on to Can Tho, the hub of the Mekong Delta and its largest city.

Day 15 To Ho Chi Minh City (BL)
Transfer to the port and board a sampan for a cruise through the picturesque canals and waterways. Visit Cai Rang Floating Market and witness the local life. In the afternoon drive back to Ho Chi Minh City. Check in to your hotel.

Day 16 Flight back to UK (B)
Transfer to the airport for your flight home.
