Day 1 Vientiane
On arrival at the airport, you will be met and transferred to your hotel. An orientation walk of Lao Capital is a pleasant way to spend the day, strolling around some of the city’s most historical sites and seeing some of the French colonial architecture. Take in the sunset by the Mekong riverside.
Day 2 Vientiane to Luang Prabang
In the morning visit the central market known as the ‘Morning Market’. From there, visit the major sights of the capital; including the oldest Wat Sisaket and the former royal temple of Wat Prakeo. On the way to the famous and sacred structure of That Luang Stupa, stop to take some pictures of the imposing Patuxay Monument. Board a short flight to Luang Prabang. On arrival, transfer to hotel. Later in the day walk up the 100m hill to the top of Mount Phousi. Enjoy a spectacular sunset, overlooking the city and the Mekong River. In the evening explore the Night Market.
Day 3 Pak Ou Caves and Mekong River Cruise
An optional early start gives you the fantastic opportunity to participate in the daily traditional morning rituals of saffron-clad monks collecting offerings of Alms (ubiquitous sticky rice) from the faithful residents. After breakfast, enjoy a short-guided tour seeing the city’s oldest temple of Wat Sene, the shrines of Wat Aham, Wat Mai, Wat Sene and the magnificent Wat Xiengthong. Take a cruise the Mekong River, offering panoramic views of the tranquil countryside as well as an interesting visit to the mysterious of Pak Ou Caves. Along the way, we stop at the village of Ban Xanghai, where they make the local rice wine. On the way back, pass the local villages at Ban Xiengmene and Ban Chan before viewing the royal temple at Wat Longkhoun and the nearby Sackarine Caves.
Day 4 National Museum
Following breakfast visit the National Museum at the former Royal Palace displays a lovely collection of the artefacts reflecting the richness of Lao culture dating from the days of the early kings right through the last sovereign, there will be free time to venture into town and stroll around the shopping area. Afternoon transfer to the airport for your onward flight.
