Day 1 UK to Yangon
Take a scheduled flight to Yangon.
Day 2 Arrive Yangon
Upon arrival in Yangon you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Remainder of the day at leisure.
Day 3 Yangon City Tour (BL)
Transfer to Yangon Central Railway where you will take a train ride on the Circle Line. This line opened in 1961 and carries an estimated 15,000 to 20,000 people a day in a loop around the city. This is a unique, fun and authentic experience giving an insight into the daily life of the locals. Disembark to visit a colourful local market. Transfer back to Yangon by vehicle, stopping for lunch at the Rangoon Tea House. Visit Bogyoke Market, and the Chauk That Gyi Pagoda to see its magnificent reclining Buddha. Continue to the Shwedagon Pagoda, one of the world’s most spectacular religious monuments in the world which rises majestically over Singuttara Hill. This 2,500-years old structure, which contains the relics of four Buddhas, is the guardian temple of Yangon and the most sacred site for the people of Myanmar.
Day 4 To Mandalay (B)
Fly to Mandalay. Enjoy a morning stroll through the lively Zegyo Market in the heart of the city. Continue to the Artisan Quarters and observe the process of pounding gold leaf, detailed teakwood carvings and embroidered Myanmar tapestry. Visit the sacred Mahamuni Pagoda, housing one of the most significant Buddha images covered in several tons of gold leaf and the Golden Palace Monastery, the sole surviving Royal Palace building in Mandalay. See the Kuthodaw Pagoda, regarded as the world’s largest book in terms of surface area. End the day with sunset panoramic views over the city skyline on Mandalay Hill.
Day 5 Ava, Sagaing, Amarapura (B)
Drive to Ava (Inwa), the ancient capital of the Shan and Burmese Kingdoms. Crossing the Myint Nge River by ferry, we explore the small roads of Ava by horse cart. Visit the Bagaya Teak Monastery, the Nanmyin Watch Tower and the Maha Aungmye Bonzan Monastery, a 300-year old architectural wonder with graceful archways. Continue to the Ancient Kingdom of Sagaing, located across the mighty Ayeyarwaddy River. Continuing to the Ubein Bridge, a simple yet remarkable teak structure that spans 1.2km over Taungtaman Lake, we have the option to be rowed onto the calm waters.
Day 6 Mandalay to Bagan (BD)
Morning flight to Bagan. Visit the Dhamayazeka Zedi providing panoramic views of the temple studded plains of Bagan. Continue to the Archaeological Museum and the gold gilded Swezigon Stupa, purported to contain a holy tooth relic of Buddha. Learn how Bagan’s famous lacquerware crafts are produced in Myingaba Village and visit Htilominlo Temple. Continue to the majestic Ananda Temple with its four standing Buddha images. At sunset take a horse cart ride around the temples.
Day 7 Bagan City Tour (B)
Explore on electric bikes that allow us to travel through small back streets and lanes and visit some remote corners in Bagan and nearby local villages. Visit the Manuha Temple, the Thanaka Museum and a cigar work shop. Continue to Nyaung U Market, the largest market in the Bagan region. In the late afternoon, transfer to the Ayeryarwaddy River for a private sunset cruise.
Day 8 Mount Popa and Salay (BL)
Drive to Mount Popa (approx 1hour), home to Myanmar’s intriguing ‘nats’ (spirits). The 777 steps to the top of Mount Popa provide an energetic climb rewarded by fabulous views. In the afternoon, drive to the town of Kyaukpadaung and visit the local market before continuing to Salay. Visit Yokesone Monastery then continue to Payathonzu and see Man Paya – a large lacquer Buddha image. Return to Bagan through Chauk, stopping en-route at a family-run Toddy Shop to observe the process of making the rich and caramel-like toddy candies from the sap of the toddy palms.
Day 9 To Inle Lake (B)
Fly to Heho and visit the bustling Heho Market. En-route to Inle Lake, stop at a local family work shop to learn how Shan umbrellas and paper are made. Drive through the valley with views of the Shan mountains and rice paddy fields towards Inle Lake, an area that is populated with floating islands and gardens made from the naturally tangled roots of water hyacinth plants and reeds. See the fishermen who balance and row with one leg, a technique indigenous to the Inn Thar minority group who do this only on Inle Lake. Later visit the Red Mountain Estate for a tour of the vineyard and for a wine tasting.
Day 10 Inle Lake Boat Excursion (BL)
Journey by boat to the Inn Thein Pagoda Complex, a site of verdant bamboo groves that opens up to a field scattered with ancient pagodas constructed over 1,000 years ago. Continue to Phaungdaw Oo Pagoda, the home of some of the country’s most sacred Buddha statues covered in gold leaf bydevout followers. We also make a visit to the Inpawkhon Weaving Village. At Nampan Village, local craftsmen show us how Burmese cigars, or “cheroots,” are traditionally packed and rolled. We end our day with a sunset canoe ride with boatmen who gracefully navigate and row perched on one leg.
Day 11 To Yangon (B)
Fly to Yangon. Visit the golden Sule Paya stupa – built over 2,000 years ago and the focal point of numerous historical events in the city. Take a stroll through bustling market streets. Continue to one of Asia’s architectural landmarks, the elegant Strand Hotel.
Day 12 Depart Yangon (B)
Transfer to the airport for your flight back to the UK.

Fly to Yangon and transfer to your hotel. Remaining of the day at leisure.
