Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Thailand Currencies

Vietnam’s currency is the Dong (VND). Banknotes come in denominations ranging from 500 to 500,000. US Dollars are widely accepted at major shops and restaurants, but smaller vendors and rural areas will only accept the Dong. Cambodia’s currency is the Riel (KHR), but US Dollars are accepted almost everywhere, you may be given small change back in KHR. The Riel is non-convertible, so use them up while in the country as they cannot be exchanged outside.

Laos’ currency is the Lao Kip (LAK), in the larger cities and towns US Dollars and Thai Baht are readily accepted. In smaller towns and villages, LAK is preferred. The Kip is non-convertible outside of Laos. Thailand’s currency is the Thai Baht (BHT). Banknotes come in denominations of: 20, 50, 100, 500 and 1,000 Baht.

Sri Lanka Currency

The currency in Sri Lanka is the Sri Lankan Rupee (LKR), which is divided into 100 cents. Banknotes come in denominations of: 20, 50, 100, 500, 1,000 and 5,000. There are banks, money changers and ATMs in various locations around the country. You can also use your Visa, Mastercard and American Express cards at many restaurants and boutiques.
