The capital of Sri Lanka, Colombo, is located on the west coast of the island, around 35 kilometres from the international airport. Colombo has a history as a port and was ruled by the Portuguese, Dutch and British. The architecture in the city reflects this with a fusion of modern and colonial-style buildings.


Sigiriya is known for its Cave Temples and its rock fortress which lies near the town of Dambulla. From here it is also easy to visit Anuradhapura, the first capital of Sri Lanka, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and Polonnaruwa, an ancient city filled with ruins and temples. Minneriya National Park is also nearby where a jeep safari can be enjoyed to spot wildlife including elephants, deer and a variety of birdlife.


Kandy is a friendly city in the centre of the country. It is known for the Buddhist temple, the Temple of the Tooth, which reportedly houses a tooth of Buddha. It is set amidst verdant mountains and is home to the scenic Kandy Lake.

Nuwara Eliya

Situated in central Sri Lanka, this region is known as the predominant tea growing area with its numerous tea plantations. It is often referred to as “Little England” as it has a cooler climate and was favoured by the English who pioneered Sri Lanka’s tea industry.

Yala National Park

Sri Lanka’s most renowned National Park, Yala, is in the southeast of the country and encompasses a large area of forest, savannah and lagoons. It is home to an incredible array of wildlife, including elephants, leopards, crocodiles, monkeys and buffaloes.


A popular beach resort on the south-western coast of Sri Lanka, Beruwala makes a great place to spend a few days relaxing after your tour. There is a good selection of hotels here and a lovely stretch of golden sand beach. Best for beach stays from October to April.


The large town of Dambulla is located in central Sri Lanka, in the Matale District, and is home to one of the country’s cultural highlights, the UNESCO World Heritage Site – Dambulla Cave Temples. It is the largest and best-preserved cave temple complex in Sri Lanka. The caves contain Buddhist art and sculptures, and the exterior of the caves is adorned with a large Gold Buddha.


Located in the central eastern part of the country, Polonnaruwa is one of the most important cultural sites in Sri Lanka and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was a medieval capital dating back to the 11th century, and is home to a fascinating collection of temples and ruins.


Just a short distance north of Colombo, Negombo is a beach resort with a selection of accommodation and golden sand beaches. It is also convenient for its proximity to the airport. Best for beach stays from October to April.


On the southwest coast, the city of Galle was founded by Portuguese colonists in the 16th century. It is a delightful city with a mixture of Portuguese, Dutch and British colonial architecture. Galle Fort, which was built on a rocky peninsula, makes for an interesting visit.


The fishing village of Wadduwa is on the western coast around 33km south of Colombo, and is home to some of the country’s best golden sand beaches. Wadduwa has a relaxed, laid-back atmosphere, is good for water sports and has a few bars, restaurants and boutiques. Best for beach stays from October to April.


A port city on the northeast coast of Sri Lanka, set on a peninsula, it has one of the finest natural harbours in the world. Trincomalee has a rich history and is home to Fort Frederick and an array of temples. There are fine beaches here too, providing a great place to relax at the end of your tour. Best for beach stays from March to September.


A coastal resort and scenic fishing village on the east coast of the country with lovely white sand beaches. It’s clear, shallow waters make it ideal for swimming and snorkelling, with a reef that runs across the bay. An ideal place for a few days relaxing by the beach.
