Day 1 UK to Luang Prabang
Fly from the UK to Luang Prabang. Flights can be arranged from London or a regional airport local to you.
Day 2 Arrive Luang Prabang
Upon arrival at Luang Prabang Airport you will be met and transferred to your hotel. The remainder of the day will be at your leisure to relax or explore the local area.
Day 3 Luang Prabang City Tour (BL)
Visit the Traditional Art and Ethnology Centre to learn about the country’s many ethnic cultures. See the magnificent Wat Xiengthong, a fine example of classical Laotian architecture. Continue to the Royal Palace Museum, and Big Brother Mouse, the most famous bookshop in Laos. Ascend the 328 steps to the top of Phousi Hill, for a beautiful sunset view of the city, and end the day with a visit to the famous Night Market.
Day 4 Pak Ou Caves (BL)
An early start to witness the morning ritual of monks collecting offerings of Alms (sticky rice) from residents. Cruise upstream on the Mekong River, stopping at Xiengmene Village, and continue to the mysterious Pak Ou Caves, crammed with thousands of gold lacquered Buddha statues of various shapes and sizes. Return to Luang Prabang, visiting the villages of Ban Xanghai, Ban Xangkhong and Ban Xienglek.
Day 5 Khuang Si Waterfall (BL)
Discover the Khuang Si Waterfalls where you can cool off with a refreshing swim in the pools or walk along the forest trails. On the way back to Luang Prabang, stop at the Kuang Si Falls Butterfly Park and the local villages at Ban Na Ouane and Ban Thapene.
Day 6 Luang Prabang to Xiengkhouang (BL)
Travel over the mountains to Xieng Khuang, which was heavily bombed during the Indochina War, but is mostly famous for the mysterious Plain of Jars. The journey takes about eight hours, with some stops at villages along the way to witness the rural life of local tribes like the Hmong people.
Day 7 Plain of Jars (BL)
Journey through Phonsavan to the Plain of Jars, a huge archaeological site with 2,000 year old stone jars, sized from 70 cm up to 3 or 4 meters, scattered across it. Their true origin remains a mystery. The day includes visits to various sites and local villages, where traditional houses and customs continue to be used. In the afternoon, enjoy a trip to Muang Khoun, home to a unique sitting giant Buddha.
Day 8 Xieng Khouang to Vang Vieng (BL)
Explore nearby villages, populated by a Hmong hill tribe and Tai Dam people, both having a vibrant culture and fascinating history. A scenic drive takes you to Vang Vieng, a small town nestled on a bend of the Nam Song River, where its stunning scenery with limestone outcrops remains unspoiled.
Day 9 Vang Vieng to Vientiane (BL)
Stroll around the town visiting the local market and Organic Farm Vangvieng (OFVV), where natural materials and traditional methods are used. After visiting Tham Jang Cave, drive to Vientiane, stopping en-route at Vang Xang, a famous archaeological site dating back to the 11th century.
Day 10 Vientiane City Tour (BL)
Visit the serene Wat Sisaket, Wat Phra Keo and the outside of the Presidential Palace. Continue to the Patuxay Monument, Laos’ version of the Arc de Triomphe and That Luang, the holiest site in Laos, with a towering golden spire.
Day 11 Fly to UK (B)
Transfer to the airport for your return flight back to the UK.
