Discover the fascinating and charming country of Vietnam at your own pace with this more independent arrangement. Your domestic train journeys, accommodation and transfers will be provided for you whilst your time in each location will be at leisure with no sightseeing tours, excursions or entrance fees included allowing you to explore the country independently.

2018 – 19

Day 1 Arrive Hanoi
Upon arrival in Hanoi you will be met and transferred to your hotel.  Remaining of the day is at leisure.

Day 2  Hanoi at leisure (B)
Enjoy a day at leisure in Hanoi for independent exploration.  There is much of interest to see in Hanoi, perhaps visit the Temple of Literature which is dedicated to Confucius, and the curious One Pillar Pagoda and Presidential Palace. The Vietnam History Museum and the ornate Hanoi Opera House are also well worth visiting. Perhaps end the day with a performance of a traditional Water Puppet Show.

Day 3 Hanoi to Halong Bay  (BLD)
Morning departure by shuttle bus to Halong Bay, travelling through rich farmlands and seeing workers in the rice fields.  Board your cruise vessel, a traditional wooden sailing junk to embark upon your overnight journey to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Halong Bay, cruising past beautiful rock formations and limestone peaks. Enjoy the beauty of a sunset in Halong Bay, and perhaps try your hand at kayaking, or simply relax on board. Perhaps attend a cooking demonstration before a delicious dinner aboard your vessel.

Day 4 Halong Bay to Hanoi (B Brunch)
Join an early morning Tai Chi class on the sundeck, then have a light breakfast on board.  Visit one of the local caves. Enjoy a freshly prepared brunch on board before disembarking and returning to Hanoi. Transfer to the station to take the night train to Hue.

Day 5     Hue free day (B)
Upon arrival at the station in the morning, you will be transferred to your hotel.  Remainder of the day at leisure.

Day 6  Hue to Hoi An
Transfer to Hoi An, passing the scenic Lang Co Lagoon and Hai Van pass where you can enjoy breathtaking views from the top.  Remainder of the day at leisure.  Perhaps take a leisurely stroll for your first glimpse of this delightful and charming town.

Day 7 Hoi An free day (B)
Enjoy your time at leisure in Hoi An to explore this characterful town. The best way to see Hoi An is on foot, so take a leisurely walk through the narrow, beautifully preserved streets.  Must-see sights are the famous Japanese Covered Bridge and the Phung Hung House, home to an old merchant family for over two centuries.

Day 8 Hoi An to Ho Chi Minh City (B)
Transfer to Danang station for your overnight train to Ho Chi Minh City.

Day 9 Ho Chi Minh City (B)
Arrive Ho Chi Minh City and transfer for breakfast. Remainder of the day at leisure for independent exploration of this vibrant and bustling city.  Perhaps visit the fascinating Reunification Palace and the War Remnants Museum. You may also wish to visit the Cu Chi Tunnels on the city’s outskirts, where former Viet Cong guerillas guide visitors through a section of the labyrinthine tunnels.

Day 10 Ho Chi Minh City (B)
Day at leisure for independent exploration.  You may wish to join a tour to the Mekong Delta to explore the picturesque canals and waterways by boat.

Day 11 Depart Ho Chi Minh City (B)
Transfer to the airport for your onward journey.
